6 Gorgeous Historic Hotels In Newburyport MA + 6 Airbnbs

Looking for the best hotels in Newburyport Massachusetts? From cozy winter getaways to summer beachfront suites, we’re sharing our favorite Newburyport hotels + Airbnbs to capture the essence of this historic town!

Hey there, fellow travel enthusiasts! If you’re on the hunt for a relaxing getaway that’s equal parts quaint and charming, look no further than the picturesque town of Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Nestled along the scenic shores of the Merrimack River, this delightful coastal haven offers a perfect blend of historical appeal, vibrant culture, and stunning natural beauty. And what better way to experience it all than by checking into one of the town’s top-notch hotels?

Let’s dive into our list of the coziest and most inviting hotels that Newburyport has to offer.

Which Section Of Newburyport To Stay In:

The best hotels in Newburyport MA including Newburyport bed and breakfast and Newburyport Airbnb options

There are three main areas of Newburyport that you’ll want to stay in.

Downtown Newburyport is the heart of the town and is home to many of its best restaurants, shops, and attractions. That’s the area right in the middle of the map, at the grey pin. If you’re looking to be in the center of the action, staying in a hotel in downtown Newburyport is a great choice. You’ll be within walking distance of the town’s many shops and restaurants, as well as plenty of things to do and attractions like the Custom House Maritime Museum and the Firehouse Center for the Arts.

If you’re looking for a quieter stay, the neighborhoods surrounding downtown Newburyport may be a better fit. These areas offer a more residential feel and are still within walking distance of the town’s many attractions. The South End and Joppa neighborhoods are both great options for those looking for a quieter stay. These neighborhoods are only a 10-15 minute walk downtown (and a gorgeous walk at that!) so you don’t need to worry about being too far away. But make sure you’re staying within the downtown residential area (which most of these hotels are), because you don’t want to end up over near the highway/strip malls.

For those looking to be close to the beach, the Plum Island area of Newburyport is a great choice. Plum Island is a barrier island located just off the coast of Newburyport and is known for its beautiful sandy beaches and wildlife refuge. Staying in a hotel in the Plum Island area will give you easy access to the beach and the wildlife refuge, as well as the many restaurants and shops located on the island. You can’t walk to downtown from Plum Island, but there’s a totally different vibe out there with a few cute beach shack bars. The drive to downtown from Plum Island is about 10 minutes, and Plum Island is the closest beach to downtown.

So those are the three main areas. Luckily, there are plenty of awesome hotels in each. Let’s dive into our favorite hotels in Newburyport Massachusetts, plus a few awesome Airbnbs, too!
